Pope Francis Remembered, Papal Funeral Set, Cardinals Meet in Rome
Gina Christian catches you up on continuing coverage of the death of Pope Francis as of April 22, 2025. World leaders and faithful remember the late pope, who died yesterday at age 88, as a champion of peace and those on the margins. Cardinals in Rome met today to finalize funeral arrangements for the pope and to select three cardinals who will temporarily assist the camerlengo, Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell, administering the governance of the Church until a new pope is elected. With the pope's death, the canonization Mass for Blessed Carlo Acutis has been postponed, although the closing Mass for the Jubilee of Adolescents will take place as scheduled. In Washington, Catholic immigration advocates applaud an April 19 order from the Supreme Court that temporarily blocks the Trump administration from deporting a groups of migrants under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.
