Florida Execution, Washington Archdiocese Layoffs, Pope Leo XIV's First Month
Thanks for listening! Let us know what you think. God bless!
Gina Christian of OSV News catches you up on the Catholic news of the day for June 6, 2025. In this episode: As the state of Florida moves forward with another scheduled execution on June 10, retired Bishop Felipe Estévez of St. Augustine is calling the death penalty "a failure of mercy and moral imagination." The Catholic bishops of Maryland are urging Catholics to harness the use of emerging technologies while always putting "human dignity" at the forefront. Both new and established groups of Catholic lay people are called to contribute to the church's oneness and its mission, Pope Leo XIV said. Cardinal Robert McElroy of Washington has announced layoffs and major cutbacks at that archdiocese, due to what he called "crippling economic challenges." Pope Leo has been on the job for a month now, and he's quietly charting his own path -- marked by deep listening and missionary heart. Tune in and visit us at osvnews.com.
